The Story Behind the Name

The Story Behind the Name

Beau Point is named after Beauchamp Point. Here's how that happened.

Every summer growing up, I'd visit my grandparents in Rockport, Maine. If you haven't been, Rockport and the neighboring town, Camden, are about as close to a perfect New England summer town as you can get. Lobster boats head out before sunrise, sailboats fill the harbor by afternoon, and there's that salty air you don't get anywhere else. My grandparents had a house right on the harbor, so I'd fall asleep to the sound of the water and wake up to the sound of the engines heading out.

Our summer routine never changed. We'd grab hot dogs and root beer from Scott's, a no-frills shack in a Reny's parking lot that somehow always had a line ten people deep. Then we'd head down to Beauchamp Point, a rock formation that juts out into the water where you could jump, sunbathe, eat your hot dogs, or just sit and watch the boats go by. We did all of it.

There's something about that part of Maine that's hard to put into words. The natural beauty is spectacular, and the people are warm and friendly. Nobody there is trying too hard. It just is what it is, and that's exactly why it sticks with you.

Years later, when my family got a chocolate lab, we named him Beauchamp, Beau for short, after those rocks. If you follow us on Instagram, you've already met him. He's our logo. So when it came time to name the company, it was an easy call. Beau Point is named after a place that means something to me and a dog that does too. .
